12 Ways to Live a Healthy Life


Living healthy is something we search more and more in our daily lives lately. A healthy lifestyle is something we should look to achieve. Because who doesn’t want to be healthy and happy, right? That’s why I decided to share my top 12 main ways to live a healthy life.

Leading a healthy lifestyle should be a purpose for you. It is for me, especially lately when my life is dynamic.

The last few years for me were filled with anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder. They all thought me to be careful and to always look for a way to improve my life in any direction. So let’s start with the 12 ways to improve your life and start living a healthier and happier life!

1. Diet

I believe diet is really important for your overall health. Of course, I learned that the hard way after trial and error. The food we eat could kill us or heal us.

As someone who struggled a lot with an eating disorder my advice is to be really careful what is the quality of the food you eat. For example, here in my country chicken is not a healthy option at all so I try to limit the portions of chicken I eat. The quality of the food is the most important part of your diet.

I love chocolate and actually everything sweet. I could eat a jar of Nutella just like that without blinking. When I started eating healthy at first I was restricting myself of sweets. With the time passing by and many diet failures I knew I had to change something in my lifestyle. I started making healthy options of my favorite desserts. Pancakes are one of my favorite and I made a recipe that is healthy and delicious at the same time. So just try to make healthier versions of your favorite desserts.

Something you already know but I want to remind you is to eat more fruits and veggies. Lately, I try to eat less sugary fruits like blueberries and apples because of my PCOS. The result is amazing. And the options for veggies are endless and most of them are easy to prepare. You can always make a gorgeous salad or a side dish.

Eat more protein. I am not so much into meat, I eat meat twice a month. But I eat a lot of eggs and beans which are also rich in protein. Protein helps you to build muscle. Definitely implement it more in your healthy lifestyle.

Just find your own way. See what your body needs. I eat three times a day and listen to my body.

Listen to your body and give it what it really needs! That doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself from time to time! I am definitely not a fan of extremes.

2. Exercise

This is my favorite part. I am an active person and I’ve always been that way. Being active and doing exercises is one of the main components of a healthy lifestyle. The variety of sports and activities is HUGE! You can pick whatever you like, just experiment and find what really moves you.

You can exercise at the comfort of your home or go to the gym if you find it hard to motivate yourself to work out at home. It depends on you. Personally I love to exercise at home – it’s easy, it’s free and you have the freedom to do whatever you feel you want to.

I won’t lie to you – if you just start your journey with exercises at the beginning it will be really hard but just give yourself a month to get used to that habit. A few years ago I made a long break from exercise and when I decided to start again I was exhausted during my first attempts to exercise. But all I needed was just a month. Now I can’t live without my exercises. All you need is motivation and to believe in yourself. I know you can do it.


3. Stretch

Yes, this is also a kind of exercises. Many people actually forget about stretching and stretching has so many benefits for your body. A good stretch can not only increase your flexibility  but also the range of motion. It also improves your posture and the blood flow to your muscles.

But what I find the best is that stretch can calm your mind and it is the perfect way to relieve stress from your body.

I used to think that stretch is not important at all but now it is a part of my daily routine and it makes me feel great. You will definitely enjoy it.

4. Walk

Hm, I can’t find words to tell you how much I love walking. It is by far my favorite activity and one of the easiest ways to keep yourself in shape.

Walking is small or huge part of our lives. It is something we all do.

The benefits from walking are endless. It is great for your physical health but most of all it definitely works on your mental health too.

You only need 30 minutes of walking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Park further and walk to the shop. You can switch the weekly coffee date with your best friend and go for a long walk. Or if you prefer to be alone put up some music and walk.

For many people it sounds strange but during the winter I walk at home. No I don’t have a treadmill. I put my favorite TV series on my phone or on the TV and walk for 40 minutes. You don’t need to have a huge house, I live in a medium apartment and still manage to do it. As I said, the options are endless.

They can help you and motivate you to walk more to achieve your daily goal. It is definitely one of my biggest motivators.

Start small. Today walk for 15 minutes and increase with the time passing by. Walking is fun!

5. Sleep

Good quality sleep is also a great part of leading a healthy lifestyle. I am working on shifts and some nights I don’t sleep at all so I completely understand the power of good night sleep.

Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

Sleep may prevent you from cancer. It also reduces the stress levels and prevents from inflammation. Sleep improves your memory and reduces the risk of depression and other mental illnesses.

And yes, it definitely helps you lose weight and be in better shape.

When I was younger I didn’t even realize how powerful tool sleep can be. It affects your overall health in so many ways.

Just think about it. Make your bedroom quiet, darker and check the temperature. Make your place perfect for sleep.



6. Water

Drinking more water is crucial for your healthy lifestyle. I used to drink one glass of water per day in the past. Now I drink much more – around 2 liters. Drinking water can make your skin healthier and regulates the body temperature at the same time. The benefits are SO MUCH.

Now it is easy for you to drink more water. You can set an alarm on your phone, there are even apps about that. If you don’t like the taste or you are tired of it you can always make it different by putting slices of lemon or cucumber, or even fresh mint. There are so many options.

Another tip I want to give you is to carry a bottle with water everywhere with you, especially during the summer. Trick yourself by using a cute fruit infused water bottle

7. Yoga

I always wondered why people are so crazy about yoga. Now I know.

A few years ago when I was in a deep depression I was so exhausted but I really wanted to find a way to calm my anxious mind. I decided to try some yoga. The effect was amazing. At the beginning it was really hard but I grew to actually love yoga.

Yoga can help you become more flexible and it also increases the muscle strength. It is a great cardio and it can help you reduce your weight. Yoga also helps you maintain a balanced metabolism and a calm mind. The rewards from yoga are HUGE.

I am a big fan of yoga now.I try to implement it on my weekly exercise schedule at least twice. And I always do yoga when I feel anxious and stressed.

It is easy to find different yoga workouts on Youtube. Start with yoga for beginners.

Just give it a try and you will thank me after a month!


8. Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool for your healthy lifestyle. I believe it is important to do meditation if not everyday at least once in a while.

This is something I decided to try when I had my anxiety and depression. I was having hard time falling asleep. Meditation helped me clear my mind and stop thinking about my problems and fall asleep  way easier.

There are different kinds of meditation – for relaxation, for better health, for sleep, and etc. Again you can find different variations on Youtube. My advice is to try a guided meditation at first because it is easier to follow the voice that tells you what to do.

Meditation is strong tool you can use daily for your new and healthy lifestyle.


9. Positive thinking

This one is a must! Positive mind leads to a positive life.

I am a huge fan of positive thinking! This way of thinking can totally change your life. You can’t even imagine how true that is!

In my hardest periods I used to imagine myself healthy and happy, walking around a field in a beautiful dress. I could feel the feeling in that picture. I was constantly thinking how I am going to deal with these mental conditions and be happy again. Until it became true!

From that moment I was experimenting with positive thinking and it definitely is working for me in a great way.

I know it sounds easy and it is so not easy. You have to be concentrated and have patience at the same time. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

Try it! You don’t have what to lose! You can only gain from that!



10. Self-care

This is a key. I am a workaholic and this is one of the parts that I am almost always missing. With the busy lifestyle we lead it is almost impossible to think to spend some nice time with yourself. I feel you, I absolutely know how you feel.

Working two jobs, looking out for a family, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and spending time with your family and friends sometimes can be very overwhelming. But in order to lead a healthy lifestyle you should learn how to relax and recharge your batteries from time to time.

Just pick a day of the week and spend it the way YOU want to – read a book, sleep till noon, go out for a walk. Do whatever makes you happy and calms your mind. You can do it everyday – you need an hour. i find it hard to spend a whole day for myself that’s why I try to relax every evening for an hour watching my favorite TV series. It recharges my batteries.

This is really important if you want to be healthy and happy, trust me!

11. Self-love

Learn to love yourself. Self-care is actually a part of your self-love plan. Learn to accept yourself and love yourself. Self-love is the most important kind of love. In order to give a quality love to others you should first love yourself.

I know we all struggle with that. At least I do but I learned to accept myself the way I am. I found the parts in my I absolutely love and learned to love my body no matter how imperfect looks.

Work on that daily, it will totally change your life and the way you are looking not only to yourself but to others too.

12. Do what you love

This is the last key to your happiness and healthy lifestyle. I believe working or doing what you love can change your whole life and make you feel better in your own skin.
