Ribaritsa – nature and relax in Bulgaria

Ribaritsa - nature and relax in Bulgaria

Hello, guys! It is almost the end of January and all I can think of is the spring coming and travel, travel, travel! After a little study I made on Instagram I saw most of you want to write more about travel. That’s what I am going to do today. I am going to share with you a nice destination in the heart of Bulgaria called Ribaritsa. This is the perfect place to meet fascinating nature and relax!

The magical place called Ribaritsa is actually a small village in Teteven Municipality, Lovech Province. It lies in the heart of the Balkan Mountains. This beauty is 12 kilometers from Teteven and 138 kilometers from the capital city of Bulgaria – Sofia. In fact, Ribaritsa is one of the most popular mountain places in the country. Not to mention the history of this place.

I went there for the first time when I was only 12 years old. I had great memories of this place and its nature. Last year I and my boyfriend were thinking where to go in Bulgaria and one of our top choices was Ribaritsa. In fact, we made a four-day trip to the cities around Ribaritsa. I had an idea to take my boyfriend there, this was one of his (many) presents for his birthday.

We wanted to just relax at some nice hotel close to the pool and enjoy the last sunny and warm days of the year. That was the plan. Of course, things happened differently at the end.

Our first stop was Troyan. There we spend the day exactly how we wanted – by the pool, enjoying our coffee and sunbathing. It was great. At the end of the day, we decided to go for a dinner at the center of the city. Everything was closed or close to be closed. We were a little disappointed by the city itself. But nature there was gorgeous. You can read more about my experience in Troyan in the article below.

We were there for two days. We spent the second day wandering around the city and outside of the city because at that time I was working for a client who wanted an article about Troyan.

On our third day, we arrived at Ribaritsa. We wanted to stay for two days only because the weather was not so good. Usually, I am not very picky about hotels but we decided our first night to be at a better hotel. We were disappointed with our first hotel – old food, old rooms. Not a four-star hotel for sure.

I am a very positive person and the hotel wasn’t such a huge problem. I can have fun almost everywhere. We had a nice relaxing day. I took a long bath and drank coffee the whole afternoon watching the rain and the beautiful mountain. The view was spectacular. At the end not only we had fun but also we relaxed which was much needed.

In the morning we were surprised by a better weather. We decided to spend the day driving around the village and take pictures because that’s one of the things we really love. The day before we found so many beautiful spots along the way. We were absolutely surprised by the beauty of nature around. If I have to be absolutely honest our whole experience could be described as not the best at all. The one thing we were absolutely fascinated was the nature.

We were stopping at every 100 meters on the way mesmerized by nature. We took a lot of pictures. But it was an incredible experience. While we were driving and watching I almost forgot how bad was the last hotel and how hungry I was because the food was old.

I was feeling energized and relaxed. Surrounded by the incredible nature I was feeling like a bird – so free. My thoughts were: “Hey it’s not so bad! I know the next family hotel is small but it could be charming and it could give our trip the perfect end.” Guess what – it wasn’t!

At lunch, we arrived in front of the small family hotel. Not only I wasn’t surprised but I was absolutely mad. The smell was awful, the owner was rude. I didn’t want to stay there even for a minute. When we entered the room the only good thing was the view. The view was gorgeous. I could stay there and watch the whole day but you know – the smell. Anyway, we decided immediately to go out and visit the close town Teteven.

Teteven is a small town with a small main street where you can eat something and drink coffee. It is the perfect place for a walk. A sweet and charming town with a spectacular view of the mountain. We had a very delicious meal at the center of the city and we had coffee.

We were having some free time and then it hit me. While I was researching the locality a few weeks earlier I read about a waterfall in Teteven. And if you know me you will know how obsessed I am with waterfalls. Here is the place to mention how blessed I am with my boyfriend who is always ready for the next adventure.

After an hour we were close to the road which was leading to the waterfall. The path was covered in green. I was feeling like I am a part of a magical fairy tale. This place was breathtaking. But I am going to leave the pictures to say it all. The waterfall was a small one and it was really beautiful and calming. But the path itself was just magical. I was really happy the end of the day after seeing this beauty.

Ribaritsa

While we were driving back home we were feeling great, filled with energy and relaxed. The hotels were awful but all the beautiful nature we saw was worth it. My little tip is to check private houses in Ribaritsa because most of them are new and very nice to stay in. Definitely go there! You won’t regret it!

  • Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at both hotels but it looks like you had a lot of fun in spite of it. Can you believe I’ve never been to Ribaritsa? What a loss… 🙂 <3

  • Looks really nice! I’v never been to Bulgaria but it’s definitely on my list of places to visit. Looking forward to reading more articles!

P.S. The text on your site is really small, it’s kind of hard to read.

  • I’ve been hearing lots of good things about Bulgaria. I really want to go and set up base for a few months there. You have motivated me even more.
